First week has come and gone and it feels like I’ve been here for such a long time. All the people here are amazing. Everyone likes to have a good time, and more importantly, knows how too. I feel like I’ve spending money like its my job. I have an idea about what each purchase costs, just not how those are all adding up. Drinking can certainly be done on the cheap here, but it can also add up fast! Carlsberg is a life send! The first real night in Central was out of control; Shot gunning beers in the street, shots, and just usual American loudness. The only negative thus far is that my computer is being dumb, but what else is new. It might have something to do with that exploding adapter? SHEA! Considering there is no Apple Store here… fixing it is going to be a Challenge. Im going to Disney on Tuesday, which is going to interesting; from what I hear, its really small and crappy. Im slowly starting to get used to the food and what it entails, ie. Bones. I had Goose last night, which could have been even better if it was served Hot and not cold. Had fried Cuttle fish, which was very good. I feel like im eating less veggies then in the states, if that was all possible. I just finished eating these amazing chicken wings. Dont ask me the name of the place was called, cause its all in Cantonese, which only makes telling people about places to eat a million times harder. Its time to go back to school and do homework, since I cant do it anywhere else.
So this whole daily thing isnt working out so well. Having no internet really set me back for a while. Things were rough there that first night but they have certainly picked up since then lemmie tell you. The SCAD building here is beautiful. They really pulled out all the stops. Its exciting to just walk around the building. The 25 min bus ride to get there is by no means fun, but its not that bad. Sham Shui Po, the district that the school is in has some amazing sites. They have this 3 stories computer and electronic market that goes on FOREVER. Overwhelming to just walk around in. We took a ferry across to Central, which is where all the crazy big buildings and really expensive shops are. We were in the financial district and stuff like that. Its a lot like lower Manhattan. After walking around central we ate some really amazing BBQ pork and rice. I sat two feet away from these hanging dead pigs… they were delicious. We then took this death road on the bus up to the top of Victoria Peak and saw the entire city from above. It was amazing and terrifying at the same time. Might have shown my crazy card while up there.. might of. Not much else has happened. Had class yesterday. Art of China and Branding Theory. Both are gonna be pretty regular I think. My Collaboration, Hong Kong Disney class is going to be fun. We are going to Hong Kong Disney on tuesday actually. IM PUMPED! Tonight we are actually gonna go to Central and go to the bars there. Im very excited for that!!
Photos have been taken, just havent uploaded cause I dont have a card reader. Be patient!! I will try and update this more!
that comes TWICE A WEEK came today. they organized the things on my desk, put my dirty clothes in a bin, that come from no where. it was crazy… guy can get used to this!
First night in Hong Kong and I’ve hit the ground running. The plane ride was long, uneventful and was about as painful as expected. My window seat: stolen by this elderly Asian woman, stealing my view and a place for me to put my head to sleep; which I got about an hour. I watched four, if not five movies. I only peed once, which I consider a major victory in the on going war with my bladder. The food was below fast food quality, which I feel is a challenge to even do. The fact that less than 24 hours ago I was home, in-charge, and completely comfortable just makes the fact that me pretty much barricaded in my “Disney” Deluxe Hostel even more of an eye opener. The simple act of making reservations, and then having to barter for the cost of the room will probably set the tone for the rest of my trip. Maybe not? I am realizing that I am FAR too white, middle class, sheltered, and American. This is sure going to be an interesting experience. Tomorrow, the challenge of getting to the dorms will being. Now I will sleep for the first time in a long time and try to drown out the sounds of the girl vomiting and people yelling at each other in Cantonese.
